Gas masks construction and usage
The Usage and Construction of Gas Masks
Gas masks are used to protect someone form inhaling toxic gasses. Usually the mask consists of a tight knit seal which covers the nose and mouth, and sometimes covers the eyes. Most gas masks are accompanied with filters that last 24 hours in a nuclear biological chemical situation.
The most common gas mask has two circular windows for the eye, which was first used with materials like glass or acrylic. As glass is considered very brittle the mask would have to be constructed with thick glass. Later on, the discovery of polycarbonate allowed gas masks to have a full face window.
Gas mask filters are connected to the mask in different forms. Some have filters that are attached to the face piece, while others have a large filter that is connected via a hose.
